AT&T to buy T-Mobile USA for $39 bn

This is great news…for AT&T. As a T-Mobile user, I’m not feeling so confident.

“This transaction represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand critical infrastructure for our nation’s future,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive.

“It will improve network quality, and it will bring advanced… capabilities to more than 294 million people. Mobile broadband networks drive economic opportunity everywhere, and they enable the expanding high-tech ecosystem that includes device makers, cloud and content providers, app developers, customers, and more.” Read more…

It always worries me when they put an ellipsis in the middle of a quote.  The ellipsis in a quote usually means that there was more said, but it was decided to omit just what was said. AT%T has made huge claims about its coverage but the general consensus seems to be that if the AT&T signal is strong in your area, it’s great; if it’s not strong then you’re in trouble…unless you buy a femtocell.

We shall see what AT&T does with T-Mobile. If they leave it alone, great. I doubt, however, that will be the case. IMHO, Alpha Blue will force people to abandon ship for Omega Red; I hope that’s not the case but I don’t have a lot of confidence.
